Rio Grande do Norte is a Brazilian state located in the northeastern region of Brazil. It limits to the north and the east with the Atlantic Ocean, the south with the Paraíba and the west with Ceará. It occupies an area of 53,306,80 km².
Its capital is Natal, located to the northwest of the state. Natal is located at 5 ° 46 'South and 35 ° 12' West, in the northeastern end of South America. The city has a total area of 170 km². The Potengi River flows into the Atlantic.
The population census in 2010 was about 800,000 inhabitants.
More than 80% of the territory has an altitude of less than 300 meters.
The main rivers of the state are: Mossoró, Apodi, Assu, Piranhas, Potengi, Trairi, Jundiaí, Jacu, Seridó and Curimataú.
